Job Title: Development Manager
Reporting to: Executive Director

Grizzly Bear Foundation (GBF) is seeking an experienced full time Development Manager (part time optional) to join a young and growing organization. In this role you will provide strategy and oversight for all of the organization’s fund development activities, manage the day-to-day operations of fundraising, and monitor performance of activities. You will plan, coordinate and ensure implementation of strategies to develop donors and contributions to support the GBF programs and fundraising events, and maintain appropriate systems to further fund development, including but not limited to donor management, research and cultivation, gift processing and recognition, and grant applications.


Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising management

  • Plan and implement strategies to develop donors, sponsors, event ticket sales and corporate fundraising programs and encourage new or increased contributions
  • Design and implement cost-effective yet high quality fund development programs
  • Plan and implement direct-mailing fundraisers, annual giving campaigns, and project specific fundraising campaigns
  • Develop sponsorship packages, recruit sponsors and maintain sponsor relationships
  • Aid in integrating sponsors into programming, activities, and events
  • Report activities and progress to the board of directors, major donors and grant makers


  • Set and develop timelines, project management task lists, and divisions of duties
  • Maintain accountability and compliance standards for donors and funding sources
  • Work within budgets and critical paths in accordance with organizational financial procedures and systems
  • Manage donor and donation data using Salesforce
  • Carry out gift processing, research prospect and donor histories, and compile fundraising reports

Event planning and coordination

  • Plan and implement major gifts fundraisers including gala events, auctions, and other event fundraisers (with committee and others as needed)
  • Work with contracted event management companies to implement fundraising events
  • Coordinate auction information and manage data with a manual or online auction platform system of choice
  • Coordinate training and management of any volunteers needed for fundraising events

Fundraising communications and marketing support

  • Development, coordination of all print and social media related materials required for fundraising activities and campaigns
  • Work with the Communications Manager in writing grant applications
  • Manage and implement strategies to promote sales of fundraising merchandise

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proven track record of generating revenue from fundraising campaigns and events
  • Knowledge of the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving
  • Knowledge of standard fundraising techniques including solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, direct mail, and relationship building
  • Knowledge of using social media to support fundraising events and campaigns
  • Works on a small team effectively, with clear verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently
  • Superior time management skills, flexibility to adapt to new priorities, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a high level of professionalism
  • Comfortable learning new technologies
  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to assist in grant application writing, develop social media and donor communications content, and provide other fundraising communication support


Required Training and Experience:

  • 5+ years experience in a fundraising management role
  • Experience in major donor cultivation and engagement
  • Experience in major event sponsorship recruitment, auction donations, and ticket sales
  • Experience with major fundraising events
  • Experience in developing annual giving campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience and confidence in asking people to donate, sponsor or make major gifts
  • Merchandise sales marketing experience
  • Experience in using Google Drive and contact management databases (preferred)
  • Experience with Salesforce and Mailchimp is an asset
  • CFRE certification an asset

Role specific onboarding to cover tools, resources, and relevant information will be provided.

Timing, commitment, and location: This is a full time position (part time optional) with work to be completed at the GBF office in Vancouver, with some flexibility. Some evenings and weekends may be required, with advance notice.

Salary range: $26-32/hr, depending on experience
