The Grizzly Bear Foundation (GBF) and the Commercial Bear Viewing Association of BC (CBVA) are collaborating on a new and inspiring campaign, Bear Viewing Tourism Gives Back #GoBearViewing, to showcase the role of bear viewing ecotourism in grizzly bear conservation and the conservation economy.
Join us in an immersive experience to learn from passionate conservation ambassadors about bear biology, behaviour, and their vital role in our cultures and ecosystems.
The Grizzly Bear Foundation and the Commercial Bear Viewing Association work in collaboration to advocate for grizzly bear conservation and the bear-viewing industry – the two go hand in hand.
Following the 2017 closure of the grizzly bear hunt in British Columbia, bear-viewing operators committed to supporting bear conservation through the new Conservation Licence Fee. By 2019, all CBVA operators had begun collecting the fee from every guest: $10/visitor (day trip) or $25/visitor (multi-day trip). More than $114,000 was raised that first year. Annually, 50% of these funds support the Grizzly Bear Foundation’s research, education, and advocacy efforts for the welfare and conservation of grizzly bears.
- Nicholas Scapillati, Executive Director of the Grizzly Bear Foundation
