In the News: A New Approach for Conservation Officers to Better Protect Bears and Communities

September 10, 2024

Grizzly Bear Foundation has announced a new partnership with the Province of British Columbia to reduce grizzly bear and black bear deaths caused by human-wildlife conflict, support human-bear coexistence, and enhance the well-being of bears across the province.

This critical work aims to improve and strengthen Conservation Officer policies, procedures, and training with expert advice. Indigenous knowledge, scientific understanding of bear behavior, innovative techniques, leading experts and independent review will be at the core of this work.

This work will take an essential step towards addressing calls from First Nations, conservation organizations, and the public for the BC Conservation Officer Service to take a new approach to bear encounters in the province.
