We believe coexistence with grizzly bears is possible. As an organization, we work with communities, governments, and industry to achieve this goal. We support human-bear coexistence through research, outreach, and education by working collaboratively with the BC Conservation Officer Service, the Ministry of Agriculture, First Nations, partner organizations, and local communities.

Living With Grizzlies is a short film series about people bound together by the common theme of sharing the landscape with grizzly bears. These films bear witness to communities harvesting from the same fields, fishing the same waters, hunting and trapping among the same sacred lands, and sharing a common home with the grizzly bear.

EPISODE 4: LAND OF THE HAMACA | COMING THIS DECEMBER 2025

This fall, under the watchful branches of ancient crabapple trees, grizzlies returned to forage as the Wuikinuxv Nation restored a sacred balance between people, land, and bears. Guided by Elders, Guardians, and youth, the harvest revived culturally and ecologically significant orchards, strengthened intergenerational connections, and supported grizzly foraging. In September 2025, the community hosted a large-scale crabapple harvest at the Kildala Estuary — a milestone in a multi-year stewardship project that thrives thanks to local leadership and donor support.  The short film Land of the Hamaca, coming this December, captures these remarkable stories of people, bears, and the land.

Your support makes it possible to document and share Indigenous-led stewardship with audiences across the country. Explore the gallery below — all images are stills captured from the upcoming film, showcasing the harvest, the community, and the grizzlies in their shared landscape.
